The Test: Trial by Knowledge (Akonikahale tuned into Tua's Awakening and sought him out that very hour on the beach; though his mentor was aware that he was the reincarnation of the demigod, Maui, he treated him like any other apprentice, teaching him the ways of the Kopa Loei: the traditions of fishing and wayfaring and survival and being an explorer and connector of peoples and lands, all of which the young man embraced)

He may be the demigod and folk hero reincarnate, but he is still only human. His Arts carry him beyond the mere limits of his mortality...but only so far. They do not make him divine or immortal. Because he has merged so thoroughly with his Avatar, he sometimes forgets that he's no god.

Though he travels far, and meets many interesting creatures, he is too heroic and true to be corrupted.
